It's incredible how well Stroman managed his FA...opted out of COVID after a down year...took the QO, pitched well...enters a market with basically no pitching.

People are really underrating Stromans season, his appeal to teams during a time when pitchers are constantly injured, and the lack of quality available pitching.

He’s gonna get what Wheeler got.

yeah Wheeler contract makes sense 120 mil range or so, he's not gonna get much more than that

Agreed. He's an obscenely valuable pitcher, will make 120-140.

It *has* to be this team that pays him. If this team goes into next season with deGrom, Thor, Carrasco, and Walker we're completely fucked.

stro gonna get way more than wheeler

wheeler was an injury concern who had produced like 2 good half seasons over his career and he entered FA w/ patrick corbin, gerrit cole, etc.

stro is the best pitcher available, and there's really nobody else even close

Cashman is on record talking shit about his skills and Stroman has recently mentioned it on Twitter. But yeah, money talks.
Stroman doesnt care about the yankees so much that he goes out of his way to think about them and mention them as much as possible. It's the most transparent thing in the world.

it's a bit disjointed to say you won't watch this team if they fail to resign marcus stroman, in effect acknowledging how valuable stroman is, while thinking that he's gonna get some low 100 contract and that there are better FA SP available

if there are better options available, let him walk. go sign robbie ray. does anyone actually want that? i doubt it

I'd like to point out deGrom was worth 4.9 fWAR in 2021. Applying 8 mil / WAR to that... he was worth approximately $39.2 million.
pretty tired of this metric that means nothing. not shitting on deGrom, but Shohei Ohtani is never gonna make $90 mil, so the fangraphs valuation of his WAR is stupid. if he was making $50 mil this season, no one would sit there and say "man, what a bargain!" b/c no player is making close to that.

Jacobs body is revolting against him. Maybe he's the 1 guy who has figured out how to maximize his velocity as he ages. But, his body can't hold up. 3 guys you mentioned were all really put together. Even Randy Johnson who was 6 10 was 225.

For comparison
Roger Clemens 6 4 205
Nolan Ryan 6 2 170 seems suspect and had tree trunks for legs

Carlos Carrasco 6 4 224
Tylor Megill 6 7 230
David peterson 6 6 240

Marcus Stroman 5 7 180
Jacob deGrom 6 4 180 - Jacob could've used some weight training to strengthen up his body to say about 210 lbs.
There is no way Clemens was only 205

There aren't many 200 million dollar pitchers that sign at the age of 30.

Unless we're talking Scherzer or Cole, and he is not on that level, he's not getting 30 million a season. Come on now.

You're talking about a 3.3 WAR pitcher that stays healthy... Definitely valuable.

30 mil a year is like 5.0 WAR territory, he's just not there.

whatever marcus stroman gets paid, i'm not gonna be happy paying him that. we're all gonna say "who cares, SteveCo" then realize in a year or 2 the extra mils for Stroman cost us someone else at some point. he's gonna be overpaid in a pitching thin market, and the cunt Yankees are gonna try to steal him and Beltran from us.

sidenote - yankees should attempt a "semi-rebuild." they should trade everyone not named Stanton and Cole b/c they literally couldn't. They'd probably keep Judge too, but the rest of their roster is so fuckin overrated. no idea how they even got to 90 wins tbh. also, Tampa and Toronto are going to be better, and most likely Boston too.

The wildcard is the new POBO. People here wanna talk about him having autonomy but in the same breath worry about how much money Cohen is gonna spend. Cohen is gonna defer to the POBO and if that person doesn’t see value in spending money on certain players than it is what it is.

mike trout - 37MM
gerrit cole - 36MM (5.6 WAR)
jacob degrom - 36MM (5.0 WAR)

nolan arenado - 35MM
zack greinke - 35MM
stephen strasburg (oof) - 35MM
justin verlander - 33MM
david price - 32MM
manny machado - 32MM (5.1 WAR)

teams aren't signing contracts using this stupid fangraphs $/WAR formula. less than 25% of all 30MM players produced >5 bWAR this year
